The U. W. Union has been through a remodeling phase. A new set of piers have been added among many things. (Imagine a University without “piers” – ok, that’s a bad pun.)
I am seldom this quick to press, and these photos were just shot a few hours ago. They are essentially just “fresh out of the camera”.
In what follows I give several pictures of some nice views of the Union.
These are people sitting on one of the new “boat” piers. This is a nice place “to sun” on a scorching hot day.
It was a warm and very humid day, and there’s nothing like “being cool at the Union”. When I was a student, there was a song by that name.
This is a very beautiful place to hang out.
This is near the Hoofers boat launching dock.
This new system of piers is nice and boats can dock, apparently for an overnight fee. This is looking towards the Capitol, and the Divine Towers can be seen just to the left of the ever-present crane.
Preparing a wind surfing session …
Well this last photo takes the cake. In the exact middle of the picture below there is a fellow who is “jetting” over the water. There is a water pressurized hose about the size of a fire hose that sends a rocket-like plume of water out the bottom of a device, and this fellow is then riding on the jet of pressurized water. I talked to the fellow afterwards, and the whole thing is really cool. You have to see it in person.
The pictures above might imply that there were few people present. It is about a week or two before classes begin and many students are back in town. The Union is a classic place to hang out, especially on a hot day. So there were many people there. It was quite crowded. The picture below shows the Union terrace proper, and there is very little free seating space.
